Salmon Arm Secondary Jewels and J. Local high school girls rugby teams found success at Provincials held at Exhibition Park in Abbotsford on May , Both teams worked incredibly hard to reach this milestone, by placing top three in the Okanagan Zones, and top four in the Thompson Okanagan Regionals securing them seats at Provincials. Jenna Elidoros has been a fundamental piece to growing this program for the previous three years overseeing both teams. We have had to overcome lots of challenges to get here but the girls and this program persevered. On day 1, both teams found their stride in Pool play, with both placing second in their respective pools; advancing them to compete for medals on Day 2. Many of the team learned how to play rugby only this Spring.

3 talking about this. The Salmon Arm Secondary girls' rugby team is going places, but needs a bit of help getting there. The team scored a berth in the provincials that will be held May 28 to 31 in Abbotsford, but as it comes at a cost, a GoFundMe account has been established to help fund the trip. If, per chance, any of the funds aren't used, they will be reinvested into girls' rugby in Salmon Arm. On the GoFundMe page, organizer Sarah Turgeon-O'Brien, explains that the team consists of 11 girls coached by John Laboyne, who came out of retirement to help them reach this new level of achievement through twice weekly practices and weekly games across the Thompson Okanagan. They have achieved top rankings in the Thompson Okanagan region," she said on the page.

Not only did players on a Salmon Arm female hockey team excel at their sport this season, they excelled at human kindness — at supporting one another. After winning the championship in an exciting final against Lillooet, a team photo was taken with the league championship banner. Then the girls took their inclusiveness one step further. When they returned from Lillooet, they took the banner to Shuswap Lake General Hospital where Autumn was recovering from a burst appendix.

U15 girls hockey team

Both the Salmon Arm Minor Hockey Association’s U15 and U13 female divisions won their league playoffs March Salmon Arm Secondary and JL Jackson Secondary girls rugby squads faced off for seventh place in the provincial championships last week. The U15 playoffs were hosted in Lillooet while the U13 teams met in Kamloops. He pointed out that female hockey continues to grow at a rapid pace and the association is looking forward to many more successes from the talented girls in the future. The U girls played hard in their round-robin games to earn a berth in the final on Sunday. White said they faced a very strong Penticton team which they had been battling all season. The team lost a tight first game to Lillooet before beating Vernon on Saturday night and again in the Sunday semifinal. A rematch with Lillooet stood between them and the league banner.
